What we ended up doing is leaving the top arm unlocked as our little one can only pull down and not push the handle up (for the time being), giving us easy access to unlocking our doors without the added hassle of having to unlock the handle lock each time. To operate the arms on the unit you need to press on the circular lock on the top OR bottom of the unit. Installation was a breeze and just consisted of removing the backing of the double sided tape and mounting the unit in the desired location.
